First Roger Moore and now Adam West. I did wonder if you would do a Batman Top Ten and of course you did, and damn quick off the mark may I say - You must have had a Batmobile at the ready.
'They may be drinkers Robin, but they're still human beings. To the Batmobile.......' I know I keep saying it, but this really is another piece of my childhood gone. RIP Adam.
Hadn't realised until seeing them all together like this that there were so many! Yes, RIP Adam West, very much a part of my childhood, there was no other Batman for me. Wish I still had my Batman & Robin mug, my sister and I had one each - why don't we keep these things?! I would toast a tribute to him from it alongside your perfect goodbye.
I'm afraid I had to wait a couple of decades before I could truly appreciate the campiness of Adam West's portrayal of Batman. It seems he was a bright and interesting man, forever typecast as one of the great caped crusaders.
It's a tie between the Ventures and Link Wray for me.
Great set of comments add to what is a fine and apt tribute; I hadn't realised there were quite so many versions of the theme tune out there.
This news, and that of the sad passing of John Noakes a short time ago, really has taken away important pieces of my childhood. I love your observation on how Adam West dealt with being in a role that he could just never escape.

ReplyDeleteThis one didn't really take that much work!
DeleteMay I suggest REM's "Winged Mammal Theme" too? Extra track on the Drive CD single, I think.
ReplyDeleteI almost featured that... along with Batdance... but decided to stick to the original, not complete reworkings.

Some people you think will always be there...

Because we don't realise how valuable they are at the time: only years later.

Unlike certain other actors who suffered from typecasting after a role like that, he never seemed to complain about it.
