My Top 90 Mid-Life Crisis Songs #9: Exhaustion
If you're wondering why things are quieter round here than usual, the simple truth is that I'm exhausted. I haven't had a proper break since the beginning of August and it's been a very tough few months at work. The more you give, the more they expect. I'm struggling to keep my head above water at the moment. I can't imagine doing this job for another 20 (or 25!) years...
Sometimes we feel like giving up. About letting the water pull us under. But Cake understand why we carry on...
People you love will turn their backs on you / You'll lose your hair, your teeth, your knife will fall out of its sheath / But you still don't like to leave before the end of the movie People you hate will get their hooks into you / They'll get you down, you'll frown, they'll tar you and drag you through town / But you still don't like to leave before the end of the movie / No, you still don't like to leave before the end of the show.
If they'd added an extra verse about keeping going for your children, because they need you and the idea of letting them down is worse than anything else you could imagine... well, Cake would have nailed my world-view right now.
Slow down Rol.
ReplyDeleteCake's Fashion Nugget lived in my car for about ten years back in the day.
Oh sorry to hear that Rol - Not long until the Christmas break when hopefully you'll get a decent amount of time off.
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it on the head there with "the more you give, the more they expect" - I know it's not mathematically possible but I always gave 110% but then burn out and resign. Everyone else who gave 80% is still there picking up the metaphorical monthly pay cheque - Seems unfair somehow but I could never be that person. Anyway, I'm really good at encouraging people to keep on going despite my rashness, and the song lyrics above are apt indeed.
It'll soon be the weekend - Make time for some R&R. Saturday Snapshots is not a priority!
Please do take care of yourself, Rol. I think the whole world needs to slow down, I just wish it would, I've never really understood the appeal of speed (if you see what I mean), but I know it's so hard when you're caught up in the race.
ReplyDeleteCake's superb cover version of 'I Will Survive' is on the shelves here. I've just realised you could apply the lyrics to the work situation too.
Glad it was a short post Rol. I'm too tired to read a long one!
ReplyDeleteTake care
If you like, I could have speaks with your employer. Don’t they know you have a blog to run?!?
