Here's a new feature which I hope will act as a bit of a palate cleanser after a full weekend of Saturday Snapshotting. Especially needed after this weekend's accidental double bubble.
Simply put, a classic tune...
...followed by an interesting cover version.
At risk of stealing one of Charity Chic's old ideas, feel free to tell me which you prefer... though I doubt anyone will deny the original is best in the case. I hope you enjoy the cover though. I found it rather refreshing.
Steal away Rol I'm planning to steal from the Robster for a series starting in the New Year. Haven't had a change to listen to the 2nd version but it wil lhave to go some to beat Gene
That is mesmerisingly bad. And yet, I find the video strangely compelling. I might even like it if.... the music didn't.... keep doing that weird.... Shatner thing.... of taking pauses where they.... really don't belong.
No no no - Don’t like that cover at all. It all sounds just so matter of fact whereas Gene sounds genuinely pained that this coup de foudre, that will change his life, has happened at all. It also goes up and down in all the wrong places. No no no - Gene every time.
Gene Pitney, hands down. The cover is soulless.
ReplyDeleteIt's got a spiky New Wave energy I quite like, but Gene's is definitive.
DeleteIs there a Huey Lewis cover of 24hrs from Tulsa?

DeleteDidn't Carter USM demonstrate their punning powers with a song called 24 Hours From Tulse Hill?
ReplyDelete24 Minutes From Tulse Hill. Up there with The Only Living Boy In New Cross.
