The new job's going pretty well so far, thanks for asking.
The commute is a bit of a pain though. Leeds is not the easiest place to get to at the best of times, and at least till Christmas, I'll be working in the city centre. Which is where roadworks go to die. I'm not complaining though, because already The Bad Place is in my rear view mirror and fading from view. I'm starting to feel that relief I mentioned last week...
Daniel Meade last featured here as one of my Top Ten Scottish Songs of 2018. That seems so long ago! Anyway, his new album plopped through my letterbox yesterday, bought (from Bandcamp) largely on the strength of the title track. The CD came with a signed lyric sheet, but I won't share any of those lyrics here... I'd rather you clicked on the link and listened to the whole song to understand why this is already a serious year end contender for 2021.
I started watching the new series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks on Sky because I'm a fan of Greg Davies and I watched the original, Mark Lamarr & Phil Jupitus version back in the day, before it all went a bit nasty. Plus, as you will know, I like a good pop quiz.
Except.
Bloody hell.
If you've not watched it yet, and yet you have a strange desire to feel very, very old and out of touch, then please give it a go. Even if it's only to see if you recognise any of the "famous" pop star guests or to see if you can answer any of the questions on chart music of the last 20 years. They do occasionally mention Elton John, or even Morrissey (because, let's face it: fish in a barrel), but the final straw came last week when one of the "famous" pop star guests admitted to having no idea who Keith Richards is. I'm only sticking with it because I've heard Shaun Ryder and Bez are going to appear in one episode, and they're always good value (I'll never forget Ghost Hunting With The Happy Mondays)... after that, I'm going to slip a nice warm blanket over my knees, mix up a Horlicks, and go look for the 90s repeats on Dave.
I'm fully aware you won't listen to any of those, but it kept me entertained for an hour or so.
They all came from my music library. I could have put Chevy into a streaming service and come up with a hundred more, but that would have been fake.
They are all phenomenal actually
