Radio Songs #43: V

On Tuesday evening, I got a call from an old friend from my radio days. I've not spoken to him in a while but back in our 20s we house-shared for a year or two and were good mates. He called to tell me that an old colleague of ours had died very suddenly. More than a colleague, actually, as she and I were in an on-off relationship for a couple of years in the late 90s. She helped me get over a particularly nasty break-up which had messed with my head and made me believe in myself again. I had hopes we might become a long-term thing, but she got the opportunity to go work in America for a while and... well, you know how it goes.

I can't believe she's gone. She was the happiest person I ever knew. Shock doesn't begin to describe how I'm feeling right now.

I questioned whether to write this post: it almost seemed too personal. But blogs are supposed to be personal, and the whole reason I write this thing is to help me make sense of it all. I'm not sure it'll help in this case, but I've written it anyway.

Two songs then, that will always remind me of V. Firstly, one she introduced me to back when we were first going out, then one I gave her on a mixtape a couple of years later. She told me later that she'd made up a dance to it. I never got to see that dance, but I'm sure it was great.
