Positive Songs For Negative Times #39: Drift Away

I don't know about you, but I'm finding it really hard to stay positive at the moment. About the only thing keeping me going is music. I live for the moment I crawl into bed, slide my headphones on, turn out the lights, and Drift Away...

Day after day I'm more confused
Yet I look for the light through the pourin' rain
You know that's a game that I hate to lose
And I'm feelin' the strain, ain't it a shame?

Beginnin' to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
Now I'm countin' on you to carry me through

And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue
A guitar's comin' through to soothe me

Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
And rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You've helped me along, makin' me strong

Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock 'n' roll and drift away

  1. Always loved "Drift Away". It led me to buying Dobie Gray's 1978 album "Midnight Diamond" which, if you'll pardon the pun, is a gem.

    1. I've been listening to some of his other stuff this week, probably for the first time. Some great tunes.

  4. Indeed I think most people are feeling it, not surprisingly - it's grinding. But yes music definitely helps significantly. I'm yo-yoing a lot these days - unusual for me as I'm fairly even most of the time - but when I slip down, it's right down. So I stick on a good record and dance round our tiny living room like a mad old woman (oh, wait....) and set off some endorphins. I'm amazed at the difference it makes.

  5. Cracking track - not even Michael Bolton can ruin it.
Hard work at the moment I agree. Yesterday my company promoted Time To Talk Day - it was great just having a chat with random people throughout the day (with or without video) about nothing at all ... and on work's time!
Some connections re-established, but still one yearns to be out of this place (like The Animals)
