Positive Songs For Negative Times #45: White Noise

Today we have a song about lockdown, with a hopeful tone, direct from Norwich Americana act José McGill & The Vagaband. The lyrics are in the video, and very timely they are too.

Apparently, something good has come out of this year for José and his crew - their cover of This Will Be Our Year by the Zombies has been picked as the soundtrack of the TV campaign to promote the forthcoming Census.

Can you believe they're having a Census this year? I expect there might be a fair few defaced papers... I wonder how many people will end up in prison for that? Or maybe they'll just fine everyone who doesn't complete it and give the money to the Chancellor?

Which made-up religion are you going to pick?

(Don't do that. It's not funny.)

  1. That's pretty good and, as you say, timely.

Forget made up religions for the census, I see there is a campaign to encourage people to declare their national identity as European rather than English, Scottish, Welsh, etc. https://www.stayeuropean.org/census/

  2. Loved that José McGill track. Somehow reminded me that Spring is almost here.

  3. Is Norwich Americana a thing? Like Cuban Jazz from Ormskirk or Aboriginal Folk Songs from Truro.
Well, whether it is a thing or not, that sounds pretty good to me

    1. I'm totally with you on this. But East Anglicana just sounds weird.

  4. Was nervous about this one. I’m a huge fan of the Zombies and this song in particular. My anxiety was unfounded. This lot pulled it off with gusto. Really liked what they did with it.
