Namesakes #116: Gun(s)

These days, I'm quite surprised when I put a bandname into discogs and only come up with a couple of alternatives. It hardly seems worth the effort. Still, as I'm sure many of you are busy with your Christmas shopping this week (and I'm busy with my year end countdown), so you'll probably thank me for not wasting too much of your time with bands named Gun... or The Gun... or... bending the rules just to give George something else to listen to today, The Guns. I know he frees up most of his Tuesday for this feature, and I don't want him to feel short-changed.

THE GUN #1

British rock band who hit the charts in 1968 with Race With The Devil. Formed from the ashes of a band called The Knack (see Namesakes #73), lead singer Adrian Gurvitz would go on to write a Classic, in his attic.

GUN #2

Glaswegian rock band formed in 1987 who changed their name to G.U.N. following the Dunblane massacre. They enjoyed a number of minor hits in the 90s, though they'll most likely be remembered for their Top Ten cover of the old Cameo song... They split up in '97, but they're back together and still touring today.

THE GUNS #3

Early-mid 80's Hardcore Punk band from Cleveland, Ohio.

There was also an Italian band called The Guns who sounded (from the discogs description) to be in a similar vein to these guys... but I couldn't find any of their music.

Plus, way back in the 50s there was a bunch of Guns who are described as "the first pop group in Halden, Norway." Sadly, no evidence could be found, not even of their song "Dry Champagne"...

THE GUNS #4

...but I did manage to track down these noisy Welsh Guns from about fifteen years back...

Shoot - that's all I could find today. Do any hit the target for you... or are they all misfires?

  1. #1 for me please. I think #2 must have passed me by completely. There is a number #5, from Springfield where the Simpsons live:
