Snapshots #281: A Top Ten Banana Songs

Ten songs to send you completely bananas on a Sunday morning... I left out The Banana Boat Song only because it seemed too obvious, and Harry featured here just a couple of weeks back.

10. The right bloke finds a special place in Samantha and Amanda's heart.

There's a man inside both their names.

Man - Bananas

9. In betweeners.

Ween is hidden inside Betweeners.

Ween - Bananas & Blow

8. Jobson investigates Tom's accent and George's band.

Richard Jobson was in The Skids. Tom Petty had a Southern Accent. Boy George's band was Culture Club.

Southern Culture On The Skids - Banana Puddin'

7. Points for Sweet Talking.

A Sweet Talking Guy gets loads of marks.

Guy Marks - Loving You Has Made Me Bananas

It gave me a great deal of joy to hear that again after so many years.

6. Robert got the blues in a box.

Robert Johnson had the blues. Jack in a box.

Jack Johnson - Banana Pancakes

5. Connects Mary to a Carpenter.

Mary Chapin Carpenter. You could also have Harry Carpenter to complete...

Harry Chapin - Thirty Thousand Pounds of Bananas

4. Regular jolts.

Prunes keep you regular. Electricity gives you jolts.

The Electric Prunes - The Great Banana Hoax

Saturday Snapshots #151 - The Answers

Following the appearance by Doctor Jones ("the dog was called Indiana") on yesterday's Snapshots, I thought it would be nice to lead today with a woman who could always drink him under the table: Marion Ravenwood, aka Karen Allen. She was pretty good at dealing with Starmen too.

Here are this week's answers...

10. The first book of "Oy! I was watching that!"

The first book was Genesis.

Genesis - Turn It On Again

I'm not sure I can get behind the current yoof attempt to rehabilitate Collins, but Turn It On Again is still a cracking tune.

9. Smug tribes with Spanish heart.

Smug tribes is an anagram.

Corazón is Spanish for heart.

Tim Burgess - Oh My Corazón

8. Fictional world - anagram rejected on grounds of taste & decency.

I could not bring myself to come up with an anagram for Bucks Fizz.

Before you accuse me of scraping the barrel, Bucks Fizz will always have a special place in my heart as the band that encouraged my sexual awakening. This track is just pure cheese though...

Bucks Fizz - The Land of Make Believe

7. High ranking Smurf priest seeks release.

Father Abraham becomes a Colonel.

Colonel Abrams - Trapped

6. Bird & Davies choose their favourite ice cream dessert.

Dickie Bird & Dickie Davies, sports fans!

The Dickies - Banana Splits

5. If you knew she married Bruce, it'd set your temperature soaring.

If you knew Peggy Sue... got married... to Bruce Lee... it'd give you a fever.

Peggy Lee - Fever

4. Powerful sweets, back to front.

The Mighty Lemon Drops - Inside Out

3. Like Williams with a Bad Attitude, lost on a mad stream.

Robbie Williams meets B.A. Robertson...

Robbie Robertson - Somewhere Down The Crazy River

2. Paltry cuts ban central haulage.

Paltry cuts = Petty Nicks.

The centre is the heart. Haulage is dragging things around.

Tom Petty & Stevie Nicks - Stop Dragging My Heart Around

1. Walking the dog on Lakeland Fells makes you realise what a beautiful planet this is.

Rufus Thomas went Walking The Dog.

Alfred Wainwright wrote lots of books about walking in the Lake District.

More next week.
