Saturday Snapshots #1
A brand new interactive feature. Let's give it a try, anyway.
I post ten clues to ten songs, both a band photo and a cryptic hint, you have to try to identify them. Artist & title. No connection between the songs other than that they're all in my record collection and I haven't found a way to shoehorn them into any other Top Ten yet.
10. Coke really is addictive.
9. These guys certainly take it... for old blue eyes.
8. A could-be tennis sister complains that her man's no good with his hands...
7. Two guys who should have been MUCH bigger update Turkey.
6. Partners who don't like social gatherings... twice.
5. Set firm in their Supreme admiration...
4. Always shelling out, never picking up rice in the church.
3. Here are the headlines: We Sued Ghostbusters.
2. After the cremation, there was hardly anything left.
1. A bunch of absolute good-for-nothings who hate sleeping policemen.
Answers - and top tunes - next Saturday.

First guess:
ReplyDelete7. They Might Be Giants - Istanbul (Was Constantinople)
3, Huey Lewis And The News - I Want A New Drug
I'm off to have a proper look (ie not on my phone) and hopefully answer some more
I think I've found another:
Delete6. Associates - Party Fears Two
I'll give you three marks for those, even though you got the title of #7 slightly wrong.
DeleteWhat a great feature!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea that No. 6 might be 'Antisocial Husbands' by The Antisocial Husbands.... but I'll be back with slightly better thought-out responses when I have more time ;-)
I wish I could give you a point for that. I'd buy that record.
DeleteA great idea Rol. I'm a bit knackered, but can offer up these suggestions off the top of my head....
ReplyDelete10. You To Me Are Everything by The Real Thing
8 Lucinda Williams, but can't think of an appropriate song.
4. Happy Together by The Turtles
2, Petrol by Ash
1. The photo is Eric Burdon & War, but I've no idea what the tune could be.
Wow - you scored half a mark on every one of your guesses.
DeleteThat's pretty impressive.
Okey dokey....
ReplyDelete10) The Real Thing - but don't know what the song is, could it be -'You To Me Are Everything'?
6) The Associates: 'Party Fears Two' (of course!)
4) The Turtles: 'Elenore'
2) Ash: - not sure about this but could it be - 'Zero Zero'?
Sorry, just read earlier comments so I see I've duplicated some here... therefore, judging by your answer to The Swede, I'll go with another Real Thing song: 'Can't Get By Without You'.
DeleteYou get two of the half points The Swede missed out on.
DeleteElenore! Good work C!
ReplyDeleteMiddle of the night, can't sleep despite the fact I have a charity run (?) tomorrow and now I find your great new feature - I might be late to the Party (Fears Two) by the time my Associates and I finish in 6th place tomorrow but after having some of The Real Thing I plan to return, as I Can't Get By Without You(r fun brain teasers).
ReplyDeleteA fun quiz. I only got the easy one (number 3).
ReplyDeleteThe Ash song is challenging, could be a number of songs: Burn Out, Death Trip 21, Shining Light, Meltdown, End of the World, For Eternity...
Or it could be something much more obvious.
Delete9 is Cake with Frank Sinatra
ReplyDelete8 is Lucinda but not sure of the song
Come on, CC - I expected you to know the song too!
DeleteYes I now see that was a clue - Its Come On!
DeleteHe sounds like a dud right enough.
DeleteIs the Lucinda song from World Without Tears?
ReplyDeleteWest.
DeleteI've cheated and looked at West track list but none the wiserIf you hadn't said West was going to say Changed the Locks
DeleteUnsuffer me?
DeleteIs no 1 a song by Eric Burdon and War? Or just Eric Burdon?
ReplyDeleteJust War.
DeleteIt's Low Rider!
DeleteAha, that was my initial thought, but I assumed Rol chose a photo from the Eric period deliberately. Little did I guess he was a red herring!
DeleteOk I've now got my Loch Ness (mini) Marathon medal and have had time to look at the above - Appears that nearly all have been guessed correctly by now but how about Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels On A Gravel Road? Ash - Burn baby Burn? Eric Burden & War - Tobacco Road?
ReplyDeleteAt last! Half a point to Alyson for Ash.
DeleteOf course that should be Burdon
ReplyDeleteWar - no idea; Lucinda - mo idea. I'm going out for a beer
ReplyDeleteIt's bugging me that none of us so far has identified No. 5 in their lovely Autumn colours. They look familiar... and yet...
ReplyDeleteYes - we need another clue please.
DeleteNo.5 You Can't Hurry Love by The Concretes.
ReplyDeleteVery, very close.
DeleteIt's Diana Ross by The Concretes isn't it? Although points go to The Swede as I wouldn't have identified them.
ReplyDelete
