Snapshots #350: A Shades Of Red Top Ten Songs

Yesterday's quiz was hosted by Will Ferrell, aka anchorman Ron Burgundy. Today, it's Scarlet O'Hara's turn at the viewfinder.

I hope you have your Dulux colour charts at the red-dy...

"Hattie Nolan" and "Hot Nathaniel" were both anagrams...

I bet Ben Folds got sick of that remark, but he only had himself to blame...

Chromatic refers to both colour and a scale that goes up (or down) in semitones...

The Chromatics - Cherry

7. Plane taken by Fresh Prince.

Will Smith on an aeroplane...

Aerosmith - Pink

Still one of the most disturbing pop videos I've ever seen.

6. Made up for battle.

Saturday Snapshots #77 - The Answers

Every Sunday morning, we discover the Heaven Is A Place On Earth, when the answers to Saturday Snapshots are finally revealed. And I Get Weak when I think about how much hard work you guys put into solving these clues. Sometimes I have an idea which are the hardest ones to guess, but if you'd asked me yesterday I'd have told you that was probably #7 this week... and yet Walter was first in with that yesterday. So what do I know?

I find it increasingly hard to add up the points for this every week, but I'm pretty sure yesterday was a 3-points-each draw between Lynchie & C. I'm sure Lynchie will tell me if I'm wrong. Thank you all for playing, as always.

Here are this week's answers...

10. Policewoman sees scarlet, burgundy and raspberry.

Scarlet, burgundy and raspberry are three colours red.

A policewoman would be a copper girl.

Three Colours Red - Copper Girl

9. Genesis, Chapter 3: where the muffins are docked.

Chapter 3 of Genesis was all about Eve.

Martha & the Muffins dock in a harbour.

All About Eve - Martha's Harbour

8. Eat this while saying sorry to Aretha on her birthday.

When you're sorry, you eat Humble Pie.

Aretha was a Natural Woman. She was born on her birthday.

Humble Pie - Natural Born Boogie

7. Bourne gets burnt by harmless fibs.

I had a student called Jason Bourne. He disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Gone dark, obviously.

Jason & The Scorchers - White Lies

6. The second third Bond enjoys a peach. I-T.

Thank you Alyson for correcting my Bond-counting and reminding me about poor old George Lazenby who appears in my favourite Bond film... yet is probably my least favourite Bond actor. (Although the way Daniel Craig is going, it's like he's trying his best to win that crown.)

Anyway, Roger Moore + Peach Melba =

Melba Moore - This Is It

5. Ludo, Snakes & Ladders, Grand Theft Auto... G.I. Antarctica.

G.I. Joe. Antarctica is in the south.

Joe South - Games People Play

4. Pharmaceutical siblings dancing with dustbin lids.

Johnson & Johnson?

Stomp! is those dustbin lid dancers.

The Brothers Johnson - Stomp!

3. A hind trim for conditional joiners.

A hind trim is an anagram.

Tim Hardin - If I Were A Carpenter

2. William of Cumbria wastes electricity.

Bill in da Carlisle. See?

Belinda Carlisle - Leave A Light On

1. Sour-faced and cut adrift.

A lesser-known Lemonheads tune from their breakthrough album, It's A Shame About Ray, but it was one of my favourites back in the day...

Live Your Life Be Free until next Saturday morning when Saturday Snapshots returns.

My Top Ten Life Lessons Volume 1: Never...

Everything I know about life, I learned from pop songs.

Here are ten things pop singers told me I should NEVER do...

10. The Boomtown Rats - Never Bite The Hand That Feeds

Listen to your mum and dad, kids... and grumpy uncle Bob.

9. Adam Ant - Never Trust A Man (With Egg On His Face)

Adam certainly heard the voices from Outer Space, didn't he?

But we loved him for it.

8. George Benson - Never Give Up On A Good Thing

Why would you? See also #5. And #3, for that matter.

On the other hand...

7. All About Eve - Never Promise (Anyone Forever)

Don't go out tonight
Don't leave me alone
It doesn't feel safe in our English home
There's fear in my heart
In my ear a whisper
Are you afraid too, or is it just me?

Written many, many years before Brexit, that was...

6. Bomb The Music Industry - Never Trust A Man Without A Horribly Embarrassing Secret

I don't want to make new friends
My friendships always end up in a blaze
I just wanted to be something that I'll probably never be
A happy, well-adjusted human being

5. Andrew Gold - Never Let Her Slip Away

'Nuff said.

4. Sparks - Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth

Are you listening, Mr. Trump?

3. Boney M - Never Change Lovers In The Middle Of The Night

Never never change your lovers in the middle of the night
Everything may look so different in the early morning light
Never never be too hasty when you're groping in the dark
What you're getting into may be just a lark

There's no arguing with Boney M.

2. Idles - Never Fight A Man With A Perm

I'm a lover, not a fighter... but I wouldn't do that either.

1. Billy Bragg - Never Buy The Sun

Do what the Scousers do...

Any pop stars ever told you never to do something? Did you listen?
