The United Kingdom of Song #2: Newport Pagnell

Today we visit a small Buckinghamshire town on the opposite side of the M1 from Milton Keynes, probably most famous for its service station. I've been to the service station; I haven't been to the town. Iffypedia tells me that the town's most famous musical son is the bassist from Bloc Party.

But we know different. We know that Newport Pagnell's greatest claim to fame is this...

It's the place where Morrissey lost his bag.

375 miles north next week, all the way up the M6 and beyond...

  1. Laughed out loud when I saw this week's location on my sidebar and pledged to give you a fiver if you'd managed to come up with more than the obvious one reference to the town in song. A tad hasty of me knowing your legendary powers of research, but fortunately for me, my fiver is safe!

  2. You know why you've never been, don't you? It's a tricky journey and ... the last mile's the hardest mile.

I won't give up the day job.

  3. There's a whole generation who only k ow of Newport Pagnell because of a Smiths b-side.
