Celebrity Jukebox #4: Lee Remick

When I started this series, Lee Remick was the obvious contender.

What do I know about Lee Remick?

Lee Remick's eyes sparkled that brilliant blue...

Her hair was just long enough so it bounced upon her shoulders...

And that's the less obvious stuff...

What do I really know about Lee Remick?

She comes from Ireland
She's very beautiful

And most of all...

She was in The Omen with Gregory Peck
She got killed, what the heck!?

I think it's fair to say that everything I know about Lee Remick, I learned from these two songs. (Oh, and the Wannadies cover version of the Go-Betweens song.)

I can't find any other songs that mention her name, even in passing. But just one of the above would be a worthy tribute. Together, they cement her status as a legend.

  1. Love the Go- Betweens song. There are some stunning photos of Lee from her film career too

  2. There's a nice raucous live performance on YouTube with Pär Wiksten of The Wannadies joining Robert Forster onstage for the song.

  3. Robert Forster's autobiography relates the occasion when he actually met Lee Remick in person, prior to her appearance on an Australian chat show in 1986.

"The first verse of the song rang out as she walked onto the set. Walsh (the chat show host) explained the context of the music and the name of the group who’d made the record. Then, with a raised eyebrow to the camera and a theatrical clearing of the throat, he read out the lyrics to the second verse. ‘“She was in The Omen with Gregory Peck/ She got killed but what the heck/ Her eyes are like gems/ She’s an actress for Screen Gems.”‘ I was being humiliated on national television. Lee smiled coolly; having met the song’s author that day, she knew his sincerity."

    1. I guess there's a lesson there for all budding songwriters.
